Umeed (Hope) Hospital held a free medical and eye camp on 28 January 2023, supported by Al-Ain International Welfare Trust.

Over 650 patients were screened and treated. They received free medicines, medical tests, sight tests and glasses. Patients who need cataract operations were identified, and free referrals were arranged for them.

We plan to hold camps like this every month so that more families can receive healthcare free of charge.

Why it matters

Blindness affects over 45 million people worldwide, and a further 124 million live with significant sight loss. Around 90% of them live in low-income countries, and 80% of this blindness can be treated or prevented. Sight loss affects far more than health: it makes work harder to find, isolates people and puts pressure on families.
