Clothes recycling

Don’t bin your unwanted clothes. Donate them to Al-Ain. It helps families in need and it helps the environment.

Why recycle with us

“Fast fashion” is making the carbon footprint of UK clothing worse. Around 300,000 tonnes of clothing still go to landfill every year, worth an estimated £140 million, while the clothes sitting unused in our wardrobes are worth around £30 billion.

Charities play a vital part in keeping clothes out of landfill. Recycling with Al-Ain helps families in need and benefits the environment at the same time.

What happens to your clothes

We used to ship clothes to remote areas of Pakistan, but it cost too much for the good it did. Following best practice from other UK charities, we now sell good-quality items in our charity shop and pass the rest to UK recycling companies. Every pound raised funds our free eye camps and Umeed (Hope) Hospital.

We still help families with clothing. We work with Akhuwat to give new clothes to families in remote areas of Pakistan, Azad Kashmir and Bangladesh, and we have given clothes and blankets to families affected by floods and earthquakes.

Do you have space for a bank?

We are grateful to the masjids and shop owners who give us space for our clothing banks, and we are always looking for new sites. If you have a suitable place, please get in touch.
